What is Red Ribbon Week?
The Red Ribbon Week Celebration is a drug and alcohol abuse awareness campaign observed annually throughout the nation during the last full week of October. While Red Ribbon Week is not meant to serve as a prevention or early intervention program, it is meant to promote awareness of, and hopefully reduce, illegal drug use and abuse in our country.

This year's theme: Step It Up: A Call to Action!

The Red Ribbon Pledge: No use of illegal drugs, no illegal use of legal drugs!

History of Red Ribbon Week: Red Ribbon Week began after the 1985 death of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena. He had been working undercover in Mexico for four years, and his work had ld to the discovery of a multi-million dollar drug manufacturing operation. The leaders of the drug cartels were angered by this and sought revenge on Agent Camarena, which resulted in his death.

Character Cafe'

Welcome to Gilbert's Character Cafe!

The Character Cafe is new to our school this year. This Cafe is the result of teachers getting together to find ways to celebrate and reward students who show good character!

October's character trait is "RESPECT". Each week throughout the month, the classroom teachers will choose one student from their classroom who has shown this character trait. These students will be allowed to enjoy their lunch in the Character Cafe!

Kindergarten and 3rd grade students who demonstrate the month's character trait will eat lunch in the Character Cafe on Wednesdays. First and fourth grade students will enjoy the Character Cafe on Thursdays. Pre-K, second, and fifth graders will enjoy the Cafe on Fridays.

First grade students are featured in the slideshow below:
  • Gavin from Mrs. Eager's Class
  • Ethan from Mrs. Epperson's Class
  • Anna from Miss Higdon's Class
  • Connor from Mrs. Richardson's Class
More photos coming soon!

Thanks to all of you for participating in Hat Days! Your participation allowed us to create the Character Cafe!

Thanks to Miss Marshall for decorating and arranging our Character Cafe!
