Gilbert Honor Society

Gilbert Elementary Honor Society

What is the National Elementary Honor Society?

NEHS is a program of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) in cooperation with the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP). This new program is designed for all elementary schools and includes two primary functions:

* Recognizing the accomplishments of students -- the whole child, specifically the full range of a student’s academic achievements and the ability to be a responsible student at school, at home, and in the community.

* Involving students as members participating in the activities of the chapter; and involving all students through leadership development and service activities, enhancing the ‘culture of achievement’ in the school.

Which students are eligible for membership?

Students in grades 4 and 5 who are enrolled in schools with an official, approved NEHS charter are eligible for consideration as Candidates for membership (those who are identified but not yet selected and inducted as members) in the Honor Society. Our Chapter currently does not include third graders. However, grades and responsibilities are used from grade 3 to select members.

Invitations will be coming home soon!

Grandparents' Day 2010!

Don't miss Grandparents' Day at Gilbert!

Grandparents' Day at Gilbert is this Thursday, September 23, 2010! We hope that you are making plans to join us for a fun-filled morning. You will begin your morning with a visit to your grandchild's classroom. There you will meet his/her teacher, tour the classroom, and complete a special activity or read a book with your special boy/girl. From the classroom, you along with your grandchild will visit the school's gym for a special snack, slide show, and a portrait (optional).

Due to the overwhelming response we have had in the past, we are scheduling different start times for Grandparents' Day by grade levels. If you have more than one grandchild here, please plan on stopping by the office so we can arrange for all your grandchildren to be with you.

Students will not be allowed to check out of school following this event. They will be counted absent if they are checked out.

Thank you, Mr. Koukos

One of our fabulous teachers went out and earned a donation for our school from a local business owner.  Mrs. Vickie Sholtz has been on board with the Renaissance Reading Program since its inception at Gilbert.  She goes above and beyond to ensure that we are still able to provide tangible incentives for our students as rewards for reading.  With this in mind, she went to a local business owner that she and her husband Mike know quite well, and a conversation ensued about the reading programs we have in place at Gilbert.  The owner of Twins Pizza, Kryiakos Koukos was eager to make a contribution to support our students as they become better readers.  Below you see a photo of Mr. Koukos and Vickie Sholtz as she accepts his $100.00 donation which will be used to purchase a variety of incentives.

Thank you, Mr. Koukos & Twins Pizza!
