Thomas A. Edison was an American inventor, scientist, and businessman. Building on the contributions of other developers over the previous three quarters of a century, Edison made significant improvements to the idea of incandescent, and wound up in the public consciousness as "the inventor" of the light bulb.
He did not experience success the first time he worked on his version of a light bulb. He often said, "I didn't fail, I found 2,000 ways how not to make a light bulb; I only need to find one way to make it work." Can you imagine what would have happened if Edison simply gave up and chose not to try again? Would we have light bulbs? Would someone else have invented them?
Thomas Edison was a very interesting man. He wasn't the best of students when he was younger. Edison had hearing problems that led to difficulties with school. His mother taught him at home. She taught him reading, writing, and arithmetic. It was reading that quickly became his favorite. He loved reading about science and was always asking questions.
