Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

ELA4R2 The student consistently reads at least twenty-five books or book equivalents (approximately 1,000,000 words) each year. The materials should include traditional and contemporary literature (both fiction and non-fiction) as well as magazines, newspapers, textbooks, and electronic material. Such reading should represent a diverse collection of material from at least three different literary forms and from at least five different writers.
During our 1,000,000 word campaign we have encouraged students to read literature from all genres. We currently have five students in grades 4th and 5th who have been inducted into our Millionaire Club. This was an incentive program designed by 5th and 4th grade teachers, Kristi Caissie and Brad Hayes to motivate our children to read age-appropriate literature from all genres as described in the standard above. We expect the number of inductees to rise significantly by the year's end. Those students reaching a million words were so very excited by the reward they received, and ensured Mr. Hayes and Mrs. Caissie that they would encourage others to reach their reading goals and join them for the next round of festivities. All treats and awards were donated by our generous staff and others are eager to contribute as the members in this club increase.
