Cream Pie, Anyone?

During our recent book fair, Mr. Hayes challenged student to purchase and read 700 books. Students exceeded our expectations! Thus, Mr. Hayes, Mr. Harris, and Mrs. Caissie all were treated to cream pies in the face! To make it even better, students entered their names in a drawing to be the lucky ones who get to throw the pies.

Thank you everyone for helping our library raise money for books and other Media Center programs.

Gilbert Art Gallery Opens

For some time now Chris Sandow has wanted to create an art gallery at Gilbert.  On May 4th her dream was realized as she and several of those assisting her with the project cut the ribbon for its grand opening for public viewing.  The walls are lined with framed, matted artworks done by students throughout the year.  Mrs. Sandow is a true inspiration to all who attend our school.

Several staff members assisted with the gallery.  These include of course Chris Sandow, Dianne Richardson, Matt Harris, Brad Hayes and Brock Bruce.

Matt Harris, Dianne Richardson, Emiley Jenkins and Chris Sandow cut the ribbon as a huge crowd awaited their opportunity to view the artwork.

Isaac Kirkland poses for his mother in the gallery.

Cheyenne White discusses the artwork with her family.

Teacher Appreciation Week May 3-7, 2010

Please take a moment this week to let your child's teacher know how much you appreciate the job he/she does with your child every day!

In last week's Walker County Messenger, LaFayette Woman's Club Education Department Chair, Maggie Stultz urged the community to pause and say thanks to teachers during this week of recognition.
Teacher Appreciation Day began in 1953 when Eleanor Roosevelt persuaded the 81st Congress to proclaim a National Teacher Day that would serve the purpose of celebrating teachers across the nation. Parent and teacher organizations have established Teacher Appreciation Week the first full week in May of each year.

Teacher Appreciation Week is a great time to let teachers know how they have touched you and your children’s lives. Very few professionals influence as many people as teachers do. National Teachers’ Week is a good time to learn about the contributions educators make to our community every day. Teacher Appreciation Week is an opportunity for all of us to reach out and say thanks.
