Area Event for Independence Day Celebrations
  • The 2013 City of LaFayette Freedom Festival on Friday, June 28, 2013, will be the city’s celebration of Independence Day. This event sponsored by the LaFayette Woman’s Club and the city is being held at LaFayette Municipal Park, 638 S. Main St. , and is free for everyone. Entertainment for the night will feature Vince Stalling from 6-7 p.m., Black Cat Moon from 7-8:30 p.m., and The Beaters from 9-10:30 p.m. with fireworks immediately following the last band. More than 50 vendors will be present, there will be free swimming from 7-9 p.m. an Old Timers Game at 7 p.m., karaoke 7:30-9 p.m. and a Pie Eating Contest at 7pm.   • In Fort Oglethorpe on July 3, Patriotism at The Post will kick off at 7:30 p.m. with the patriotic kids contest. The family-friendly event will award children dressing in the most patriotic outfits of red, white and blue. The contest is for children 12 years old and younger. One boy and one girl will win a prize for being the best decorated. Those participating will line up at the bandstand to show off their patriotic pride. The patriotic kids coloring contest will also be announced during the event. The winning artwork will be displayed on the bandstand. Tabernacle Big Band will begin playing at 8 p.m. and fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m.
