STEM in the Outdoor Classroom

Teachers from other Walker County Schools visited Gilbert Elementary School today to participate in a workshop entitled STEM in the Outdoor Classroom.

Workshop Description:
Project-based, experiential learning is the foundation of STEM Education, and teaching students outdoors is an exciting and memorable way to fulfill this goal.  Spend two days at Gilbert Elementary in LaFayette, GA to see firsthand how to develop your school site and curriculum for outdoor learning that supports STEM education.  Workshop participants will learn how to teach science, language arts, sustainability education and other subjects on a nature trail, in vegetable gardens and other locations throughout the school grounds.  Participants will leave with new ideas for using their school grounds as a STEM outdoor classroom, and with a repertoire of lessons and teaching strategies ready to put into practice.

Facilitated by Dr. Jean Lomino, former director of the Chattanooga Nature Center and adjunct professor for the Master’s in Outdoor Teacher Education Program at Southern Adventist University.

AG in the Classroom

Just wanted you to have a glimpse of the AG in the classroom workshop presented by Walker County Farm Bureau on Thursday, April 30. Walker County teachers were able to see how to bring agriculture into the classroom to help engage students and meet curriculum standards.

A special thanks to Walker County Farm Bureau,
Mr. John Howard, and the Millicans!
